17 Jul JHJ Barker Round 1 and Round 2 Review
The first round of the first major of the season saw Rob Ogden come out on top and in pole position to take the prize. But with just three strokes between Rob and Warren Duckworth in 11th place there’s plenty of twists and turns to go for sure.
There is definitely quality around the contenders with all bar two in the top 11 places 13hc or below. Chris Thornsby (2) is supremely consistent at the moment and, as highlighted last week, Dan Fielden finds himself right in the pack and just two off the lead. Amongst those joining us again this year we have Lee Earnshaw on 69 also and hitting form just at the right time.
`Also back in the fold at TGC, and current leader, is Rob Ogden. Rob loves to hit a bomb with his favourite M2 and has certainly thrown in a bomb in this competition. Asked how he felt about the game he said, “I’d have Rory McIlroy’s driving ability, Tiger’s iron game, Ricky Fowler’s putting stroke, Dez Crossley’s self confidence and Alan Platten’s golf buggy as my chosen way of getting around the course as I’m getting old.”
We reckon there’s still some ‘youf’ in the tank although there’s nowt left in Alan’s buggy as it’s currently knackered. You’ll have to do it on foot Saturday, Rob.
