Medal 1 Result

The first medal of the season saw some outstanding scoring and shows how this season may well be one of the most competitive in recent years. Bobby Fielden clinched top spot on count back from Reece Gill and with it a place in the Golf Medal final. In good conditions both scored an outstanding 62 closely followed by Chris Thornsby who, after a rare 8 on the 1st, produce some sublime golf to set the standard early in the day.

Bobby set out with a so-so start carding a 7, 6, 5, 5 before pulling that back to just +2 at the turn. “I thought, just go for it” said Bobby, and being in the ascendency proceeded to par the back 9 with his two birdies on 14 and 17 cancelling out a double bogey on 12. A fantastic round and a chunky handicap cut to 12.3 from the system as a prize….

New member Reece Gill also shot a fantastic 62, just missing out. A steady first nine and similar start to the back nine as Bobby was just undone by bogeys on 15, 16 and a double bogey on 18. Maybe that last hole is one Reece will be ruing over but it certainly bodes well for the season.

Third overall and second in Division 1 was Chris Thornsby. A very rare shank on the 1st looked to have scuppered Chris’s round before it had really began. But a faultless round thereafter showed why Chris is arguably the best golfer at TGC. No dropped shots and birdies at 4, 5, 10 and 14 saw the rest of the round come in at a gross -4. With at least three putts just sliding by the hole by a matter of millimetres that scoring could have been breaking records.
