Our new Captain & President

At every AGM we say our thank yous to the outgoing officers and welcome the incoming ones. Unfortunately, the last year has not been usual for anyone and we have not been able to host our AGM as we’d like with the usual formalities. Nevertheless, TGC is grateful to Michael Shackleton and Terry Makin (outgoing Captain and President respectively) and they make way for Dave Rushton as Captain and Mick Parenti as President. Peter Ransom now takes the position of Vice Captain.

Before we introduce all of our council members before the start of the season on April 17th a few words from Dave and Mick.

Our Captain for 2021

Dear Member,

I feel very honoured to have been asked to be your Captain for the coming year and thank you all for the confidence you have shown me prior to 2021. I had only a minimal understanding of the workings of the club and, like a lot of the membership, had taken for granted the effort of our council for its smooth running. I am therefore very pleased to learn that, with your approval, they all intend to continue in their various roles for 2021. I would also like to welcome the newly elected council members.

I arrive in this role following a very difficult year for golf in general and TGC and on your behalf would like Michael and his council for the way they have handled the situation. However, there will still be plenty of challenges ahead in 2021 with the new World Handicapping System and [Course maintenance and dev and rebuilding our social calendar] Safe Golf initiatives amongst other to be taken into consideration.

We have introduced a few different competitions this year, there is also the joint Captains trip to The Belfry to look forward to as well as more social events planned.

I would also like to welcome Peter Ransom as Vice Captain and Michael Parenti as President. I invite you to have a [virtual] drink on me.

Finally, may I wish you all a safe and enjoyable golfing year.

Our President for 2021 & 2022

I would like to start by thanking Terry Makin for the last two years in his role as President of this great club. He has served the club in various roles in the last 30 odd years as a member, as greens chairman, Captain and now a retiring President which he has served with honour and respect. I wish him well and look forward to our future games on the course.

He can hand over the reins to myself now with confidence, knowing that I will give it my all and look forward to serving the Club as President for the next two years. When I joined with Terry – and about 40 others all those years ago – we were the ‘younger end’ then, competing with the older established members. That cycle has been repeated in the last few years with an influx of younger members, all keen and competitive and this has given a real buzz to the Club.  As we now move forward with a more positive outlook, I wish everyone at the Club and it’s visitors, good health, good luck and plenty of birdies!

Play your best, enjoy the golf and I hope to see you on the course and in the clubhouse when we can.
