26 Oct The Fred Hirst Final
Well done to Dan Fielden who beat brother Bobby in the Fred Hirst Final. In tough conditions – the usual wind and drizzle that besets a Saturday round at Tod – the Fielden brothers took to arms…well 8 irons. A really tight affair saw Bobby lead with two holes to go but Dan nabbed the 17 and 18 to take the title. Although naturally disappointed Bobby’s win in the Gold Final will have been a silver lining in a season which has seen both brothers excel and make an impact at TGC. Well done to both, particularly Dan who saw the Summer League title nabbed off him on the last day. A deserved reward some some fantastic golf this summer.
In one of the most fiercely contested Fred Hirst competitions in some years, both payers had difficult routes to the final. Bobby dismissed none other than last year’s champ Matty Sax as well as Presidents 2019 winner Ryan Gaffney and the in-form Steve Hill. Dan fought hard all the way to the semis when he met and overcome the on fire Lee Earnshaw to win his deserved spot against his brother. Expect the sibling rivalry to bubble away (in the right way) until next year’s Fred Hirst and if the draw has them on opposite sides again then there’s every chance we’ll see them both there again.
Check out below the route to the final and how this year’s Fred Hirst unfolded.
