Winter League 2021

Winter League is Back!! (Almost)

Hello Everyone,

Now the Summer League has finished our thoughts turn to the Winter League.

It will start on Sunday 17th October. The last 2 years have obviously been significantly impacted by Covid and many of the newer members will not have experienced a ‘normal’ winter league so here is a reminder of how it works:

It takes place every Sunday from 17th October up to an including 3rd April 2022 with the last 2 Sundays 27th March and 3rd April being compulsory rounds.

Top 6 scores plus the 2 compulsories count towards your final total.

Meet at the clubhouse by 8.30 for the draw for playing partners with a shotgun start at 9.00. The format is stableford played off yellow tees.

Initial entry fee is £5 and then £2.50 per week. There is also a charge of £5 to anyone attending the winter league dinner as a contribution towards the cost of the dinner.

There is a winner’s prize of a bottle of wine for each weekly round and balls are awarded to the winning team and for 2s.

Prizes are awarded to the top 5 placed players at the end of the season.

The winner of each weekly round will lose a shot from their handicap for the rest of the winter league. (subject to the winning score being a minimum of 32 points)

Anyone scoring 40 to 43 points will lose a shot for the rest of the winter league

Anyone scoring 44 or more points will lose 2 shots for the rest of the winter league.

In the event of a tie for 1st place a card countback will determine who gets first place and therefore receives that week’s winner’s prize however all players tied lose a shot for the rest of the winter league.

Handicaps are a bit different now with the move to the WHS. In previous years handicaps have remained static throughout the winter as there were no handicap qualifying competitions however it is now possible and probably likely that players will enter casual rounds throughout the winter and therefore handicaps will probably change. Having discussed this with a few winter league regulars we have decided that your course handicap on your first round of the winter league will be used for the whole of the winter league (less any shots deducted for winning or scoring 40+ points).

In the event that all 9 winter greens are in use handicaps on the day will be reduced to 3/4 of your course handicap.

The final compulsory round on 3rd April will be followed by the winter league dinner and presentation.

The bar opening hours issued by the club recently stated that the bar would be closed on Sundays, this is a temporary position, the bar will be open and catering will be available every Sunday during the winter league.

We look forward to as many of you as possible taking part again this year.
