A very warm welcome to the Women’s section of Todmorden Golf Club

Let me introduce myself, my name is Jane Gale and I am the Lady Captain of the women’s section of Todmorden Golf Club for 2023/2024.

I’ve had a connection with the golf club for many years as my dad was the captain in 1975. He always enjoyed his golf and always encouraged me to play, I’m glad that I took his advice.

I join the club in 2010 after retiring from a career in teaching. I had played lots of sports before, that was mainly hockey, netball and tennis so I thought I might give golf a go. I found really enjoyed it and I’ve made lots of new friends. I like to play socially and I also try to make sure I playing as in many of our competitions as I can.

We are so lucky in Todmorden to have such a beautiful course with stunning views. There’s nothing better than being up there in the fresh air keeping fit and doing something you enjoy with your friends. So do get in touch and come and join us, we would love to meet you.

The Women’s Section

We welcome women of any age and golfing standard, from experienced players to newcomers to the sport and everyone else in-between.

You’re more than welcome to join the Club and book to play through our booking system (BRS) at a time that suits you. The ladies are here to make you feel at home. We operate a buddy system, so that if you wish you’ll have someone who can assist you in those early days when you may not know your way around and will guide you around the course.

As well as the option of arranging games with friends, you can turn up Tuesday mornings for our 10am ‘Roll Up’ where partners can be arranged. It’s generally a very informal session, 9 holes. You can mark a card if you wish, no pressure.

On Thursdays we hold our Ladies Competitions throughout the season, which are a mixture of more serious competitions, fun, medal and Stableford formats. Great camaraderie and a good way to learn from more experienced players and get to know each other.

There are also mixed competitions on Tuesdays and Fridays, turn up 10.30, called the Swindle. That’s always a popular format. Also a new 9 hole mixed competition on a Wednesday throughout the summer at a time of your choosing.

This year 2023 we’re off to Oulton Hall near Wakefield for our trip.

New to Golf

Our members will work with new players to help them obtain an official handicap index. Beginners soon get hooked on all the benefits of golf – learning a new skill, enjoying the fresh air, scenery and making new friends.

We can help you find group lessons near you covering various aspects of the game and there will always be someone around who can assist you and guide you around the course.

So what’s stopping you? We would be delighted to meet you and help you every step of the way.

Women in Golf Charter

We have recently become a signatory to England Golf’s Women in Golf Charter.

We’ve also been successfully awarded a grant through the Queens Platinum Jubilee Fund from Sports England.

This is for the sole purpose of enabling more women and girls to get into golf through our recruitment program. These are our Charter Commitments:

Social Events

In September 2022 the Women’s section had their away event at Herons Reach in Blackpool and it was brilliant!  We had two rounds of golf in the sunshine, used the hotel spa facilities and generally had a great time.

This year we are off to Oulton Hall in Leeds and we have approximately 20 lady members all set up and ready to go.

Women’s Open Golf Day 2023

It was rather wet and gloomy on Monday 31 July 2023, but 56 brave, committed and hardy ladies took part in our Annual Todmorden Women’s Open Golf Day.

It rained just about all day, but they powered on – and also bought in some terrific scores. The half way hospitality tent was very welcome and lots of cake was consumed,  naturally!

Thank you to everyone who took part and those who helped out behind the scenes making it such a great, if not soggy, day.

Well done to one of our home teams, Todmorden, who came first with 85 points, closely followed by our friends from Greenmount Golf Club who scored 83 points.

We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
