The Flat Iron Trophy – Winners at Woodsome

The Flat Iron Trophy was in danger of not happening this year but after Isaac Davey Day and Rich Wood won it at Woodsome Hall, Rabbits Captain Andy Wade is well pleased. “I didn’t want to leave it blank. I’d been chatting a lot to Kevin Johnson about the history of the trophy as captain and you realise it’s a special prize.” After Marcus Calvert and Dez Crossley had been for a round earlier in the year, Mr RC got the tip off. “It was the perfect place to play for it.”

And so the 40 strong party headed to Woodsome, some on the mini bus from the club, to represent TGC at one of the most prestigious tracks in Yorkshire. After the bacon butties had been served it was down the first tee; a fantastic front garden like tee in front of the antiquated clubhouse. Striding straight up was Mr RC himself and duly smacked one down the middle fairway (just). “I just wanted everyone to have a top time and get my first away. That was all!”, said Andy.

After the TGC ranks played through the carpet like greens it was into the Courtyard for a few refreshments and the presentations. Well done to all the winners. Jonny Rob managed to exclusively hoard the nearest the pin prizes whilst Dez Crossley and Matt Sax received a 2ball prize back to Woodsome to practice their game on account of their last placed 32 points. Bubba Wallis picked up the 4Ball prize back to Woodsome for his nearest the pin on the 7th.

A birdie on the par 5 9th for Marshy. Never one to show off…

But out on top came Isaac Davey Day and Rich “Woodsome” Wood with a fantastic 41pts on count back from Michael Hartley & John Hodson and Marcus Calvert & David Marshall.
